An SEO consultancy that shows its working

We started Plotline Search because too much SEO is sold on vague promises and reported with numbers that do not matter. We prefer evidence, and we show you how we reached every recommendation.

What we believe

Search data beats opinion. Before recommending anything we look at what people search for, what Google shows them and how your site performs. Recommendations come with the reasoning, so you can judge them yourself.

Order matters. Fixing the one thing that blocks a hundred pages is worth more than polishing ten. We work in order of impact, and we tell you why each task is where it is on the list.

Honesty is part of the service. No guaranteed rankings, no bought links, no inflated reports. If something is not working we say so, and we tell you when SEO is not the right channel for a goal.

You own everything. Your accounts, your data and the content we write belong to you from day one. If you leave, nothing goes with us.

Our method

Every engagement, large or small, follows the same five steps.

  1. Baseline. We record where you stand: rankings for the searches that matter, traffic and enquiries from search, how Google has indexed your site and who outranks you. This is the line every later report is measured against.
  2. Diagnosis. We look for the causes of weak performance, not just the symptoms. A site that ranks poorly may have a technical block, thin pages, a misconfigured Google Business Profile, a lack of links, or several of these. Usually one or two causes matter most.
  3. Plan. A short written plan, in plain English, listing what we will do, in what order and why. Each item has an expected effect and a way to measure it.
  4. Work. We carry out the plan, with you approving content and significant changes. Where your developer or web agency needs to make changes, we write clear tickets and check the results.
  5. Review. Monthly reports show what was done and what changed. Every quarter we revisit the plan, drop what is not working and push harder on what is.

What the first month looks like

Week What happens What you receive
1 Kick-off call, access to Search Console, analytics and Google Business Profile Agreed list of priority searches and pages
2 Crawl, data review, competitor and search research Baseline figures
3 Diagnosis and planning Written plan with priorities and measures
4 First fixes and quick wins First changes live or ticketed, and a short report

Quick wins in the first month are often things like correcting Google Business Profile categories, fixing broken redirects, removing an accidental noindex tag, rewriting weak titles, or improving the single page that matters most. They are small, but they show the process working and often move rankings early.

Why Oxford

Oxford's economy is unusual. The University is the county's largest employer, and its research feeds a steady stream of spin-out companies. There are science parks at Littlemore, Begbroke, Milton Park and Harwell, a car plant in Cowley that has built cars since 1913, a visitor economy that brings people from all over the world, Bicester Village to the north, and market towns with their own character from Abingdon to Witney.

That variety means SEO in Oxford is several different jobs. A spin-out selling to laboratories abroad needs nothing like the work a Headington physiotherapist needs. Local knowledge helps us tell them apart quickly, understand who your customers are, and see which competitors matter.

How we work with your team

Many clients have a web developer, an agency or an in-house marketer. We fit around them:

  • Developers get tickets with the affected URLs, the reason for each change, the fix and how to test it.
  • Writers and marketers get briefs with target searches, structure, questions to answer and internal links.
  • Specialists such as scientists, clinicians and lawyers are interviewed briefly and asked to check what we write about their field.
  • In-house teams who want to take SEO on themselves can have training and a handover plan.

What we do not do

  • We do not guarantee rankings. Nobody can.
  • We do not buy links or use link networks.
  • We do not write fake reviews or ask you to incentivise them.
  • We do not lock you into long contracts.
  • We do not run paid advertising, although we will work alongside whoever does.

Getting started

The first step is a baseline review. Tell us your website and what you want search to do for the business, and we will send back a written assessment of where you stand and what we would do first. There is no obligation, and the review is yours to keep. You can contact us here, or read about our SEO services first.

next step

Start with a baseline, not a promise

Tell us your site and the searches you care about. We send back a short written baseline: where you rank now, what is holding the site back, and what we would do first.
